RedHawks Sweep Blue Angels in Pink Out Matchup
Milwaukee, Wis. --- The Mount Mary University Blue Angels volleyball team hosted a Pink Out tonight as they battled against a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent. The Indiana Northwest RedHawks were welcomed into the Bloechl Center. The RedHawks won all three sets, winning the matchup 3-0.
Inside The Box Score:
- Andriana White (Erin, Tenn.) led with nine kills. Following behind was Gabby Saucedo Salas (Flagstaff, Ariz.) with eight kills, along with Lilly Severson (Cottage Grove, Wis.) with six.
- Ava Fincher (Owensboro, Ky.) continued to lead in the assists category with 30.
- Abigail Manthey (Mukwonago, Wis.) scooped up 17 digs. Fincher and Saucedo Salas added ten.
What Happened
The RedHawks got on the board first. The Blue Angels scored the next three points, starting with a big kill from Ciani Williams (Gurnee, Ill.) 3-1. The RedHawks scored the next five points but were stopped by Severson and Saucedo Salas, 6-5. Two kills from White tied the set 9-9. The RedHawks went on another run before an MMU timeout, 15-10. Following the timeout, the run continued for IU Northwest, 20-10. Williams got herself another kill, stopping the RedHawks' momentum. The RedHawks only allowed MMU to score four more points, ending the set, 25-14.
IU Northwest scored first, but the Blue Angels bounced back and scored the next four. Saucedo Salas and Severson added in kills to bring MMU on top, 6-2. The Blue Angels scored four straight, causing IU Northwest to call a timeout, 8-2. Following the timeout, the RedHawks fought back and scored the next eight points, 10-8. Back-and-forth rally action continued, and neither team was able to go on a long run. The RedHawks were on top 22-17 when MMU called a timeout to talk things over. The timeout worked in favor of the RedHawks as they finished the set, 25-19.
Williams' huge kill started things off for the Blue Angles, 1-1. Long rallies continued at the beginning of the set. Rosalinda Palacios (Chicago, Ill.) spiked down a kill, 9-7. The Blue Angels were able to string together four points from Saucedo Salas and White kills. Manthey added a service ace to tie up the set 14-14. Another long run by the Blue Angels, Palacios, and Fincher forced an IU Northwest timeout, 20-17. Unfortunately, MMU was unable to maintain its lead, 22-21. MMU took their final two timeouts trying to stop the RedHawks, but they could not be stopped. The RedHawks won the set 25-22 and won the matchup 3-0.
The Blue Angels will be on the road for their next game on Thursday, October 23rd. They will play at Trinity Christian with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
