Valiant Effort Falls Just Short at Trinity Christian
Palos Heights, IL- Throughout their season, the Mount Mary University softball team has been showing clear signs of growth and improvement. That was apparent again on Friday when the Blue Angels played on the road against conference foe Trinity Christian. The Mount Mary offense put up an explosive display and staged a courageous comeback. In the end, MMU fell just short against the Trolls, falling in the bottom of the 7th inning by a final score of 11-10.
Mount Mary took the lead in the top of the first inning. Amanda Nance doubled in Lily Day for the game's first run. It was just the beginning of Nance's offensive heroics on the day.
The Trolls would score twice and heading to the third inning Trinity Christian was ahead by the slimmest of margins at 2-1.
The third inning of Friday's game was one the wildest of the 2026 season. Mount Mary would strike in a huge way in the top of the inning, Lily Day drove in Nirella Coelho to tie the game at 2. Amanda Nance then struck again, blasting a 3 run home run to left field to give MMU a 5-2 lead. It was Nance's second long ball of the season.
The lead would not last for the Blue Angels, Trinity Christian constructed a significant bottom of the 3rd, pushing 7 runs across to claim a 9-5 lead.
That score would hold until the 5th inning, when MMU showed an immense amount of heart and rallied to pull within one run at 9-8. Kylie Ann Kluck, Ava Flannery, and Anna Corpas Salcedo all knocked rbi singles in the 5th inning rally.
Kylie Ann Kluck had a big day at the plate also, she would tie the game in the top of the sixth, scoring Taylor Hames with a single.
Trinity Christian would score a single run in the bottom of the 6th, taking a 10-9 lead and forcing MMU to face their last three outs.
There was no quit in the Blue Angels on this day, they would rally one more time as Alex Eads drove in Gabriela Chagas to tie the game at 10.
The Blue Angels could not quite push the game to extra innings however, the Trolls would score the walk off run in the 7th for an 11-10 win.
The offensive stars were many for Mount Mary, Alex Eads was 2-5 with the game tieing rbi in the 7th, Taylor Hames and Lily Day were each 3 for 5, and Amanda Nance was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and 4 runs batted in. Kylie Ann Kluck, Anna Corpas Salcedo and Ava Flannery each had two base knocks for MMU on Friday as well.
The Blue Angels (0-30, 0-18 CCAC) will not have to wait long to try and turn the tables on Trinity Christian. On Saturday, the two teams will get together in Glendale for a doubleheader hosted by Mount Mary.
