Aquinas (MI)
Rosemont, Ill. --- The Blue Angels of Mount Mary University returned for day two of the NAIA Leadoff Classic season-opening slate of games. They started the day against the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers, where they lost in five innings, 15–3. The Blue Angels later faced Aquinas University and fell short 8-0 after five innings.
Game One vs Indiana University Southeast
The Grenadiers got on the board immediately, scoring three runs. They continued to add to their lead at the top of the second, scoring an additional two runs, 5-0. The Grenadiers scored five runs from two hits in the third inning, bringing the lead to 10-0. IU-Southeast was not done yet and added four more runs from four hits, 14-0. The Blue Angels found a late fire as Ava Flannery (Pipestone, MB, Canada) got things started with a single. She advanced to second on a passed ball. Alexandria Eads (Lincoln, Ill.) advanced Flannery to third by securing a hit. Amanda Nance came up to the plate and hit a rocket of a double, which advanced Eads to third and scored Flannery, 14-1. Lily Day (Hinckley, Ill.) grabbed herself a hit and secured two RBIs, 14-3. IU-Southeast tacked on one final run to end the game in five innings, 15-3.
Game Two vs Aquinas
The Saints got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs. They contributed two more in the bottom of the second, extending their lead to 5-0. Tina Finley (Canyon Country, Calif.) reached base on a Saints error but is stranded on base in the top of the third inning. Aquinas recorded two more hits in the third, adding two more runs, 7-0. Eads continued her hot streak of recording a hit but could not reach home plate in the top of the fourth. The Saints chipped in one final run, ending the game after just five innings, 8-0.
The Blue Angels softball team will take a break and resume play during spring break. They will travel to Arizona for a week of games.
