Milwaukee, Wis. --- The Mount Mary University Blue Angels wrapped up homecoming week by welcoming the Governors State Jaguars to campus. The Blue Angels were able to steal a set from the Jaguars, but unfortunately came up short 3-1.
Inside The Box Score:
- Andriana White (Erin, Tenn.) led the attack with 13 kills. Gabby Saucedo Salas (Flagstaff, Ariz.) followed behind with eight kills.
- Ava Fincher (Owensboro, Ky.) grabbed a high 24 assists on the night.
- Abigail Manthey (Mukwonago, Wis.) was operating a digging machine that picked up 25. She also secured two service aces.
What Happened:
The first set opened with an offensive burst from Governors State, who quickly took a 4-0 lead. Lilly Severson (Cottage Grove, Wis.) stopped the Jaguars, and a key block from Saucedo Salas and Ciani Williams (Gurnee, Ill.) brought the Blue Angels within. The Jaguars went on another run to rally the score. Despite the kills from Rosalinda Palacios (Chicago, Ill.) White and Saucedo Salas, the Blue Angels, could not maintain a lead. The Jaguars won the set 25-15.
Set two was in favor of the Blue Angels from the start. They scored four straight points from Saucedo Salas and Severson. Governors State took a timeout down, 6-2, trying to recover. The Blue Angels continued to build momentum, and the Jaguars did not catch up until the score was tied at 14-14. In a thrilling back-and-forth second-set battle, the Blue Angels were able to snatch set two, 25-23.
The Blue Angels started set three with a short-lived 3-1 lead. The Blue Angels simply could not find a rhythm, and it seemed as if the Jaguars had everything figured out. GSU won set three 25-8.
Set four was similar to set three. The Jaguars capitalized on mistakes and continued to attack the Blue Angels. The Jaguars won set four, 25-6, and won the matchup 3-1.
The Blue Angels will hit the road for their next Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup.
