Seniors Honored and Nance ties Home Run Record in Season Finale
Glendale, WI- The 2026 Mount Mary University softball team knew Saturday would be the final day of their season. In addition to hosting conference foe Olivet Nazarene in a doubleheader, it was also senior day. The Blue Angel softball program recognized the many accomplishments of Taylor Hames and Kylie Ann Kluck, two of the most consistent and decorated players in MMU softball history.
While it was a celebratory day for the two senior Blue Angels, Olivet Nazarene did not cooperate as they won both games by scores of 16-1 and 15-1.
The Tigers of ONU began the scoring early, plating three runs in the first inning. Kylie Ann Kluck began her senior day in a fine fashion snagging a hard line drive for an early defensive highlight.
Amanda Nance continued one of the most impressive weeks in MMU softball history, when she blasted a 1st inning solo home run to center. Remarkably it was Nance's 7th home run of the season and 6th long ball since April 18th. The 7th home run also matched the single season MMU record for home runs in a single season.
The next scoring of the contest came when Olivet Nazarene scored 5 in the top of 3rd inning to take an 8-1 lead.
ONU would continue to strike, claiming a 15-1 lead. In the 5th, a special moment occurred when Kylie Ann Kluck was moved to pitcher and Taylor Hames to catcher. Taylor Hames has now played every position on the diamond in her Mount Mary career.
16-1 would be the final score for the Olivet Nazarene victory in game 1.
Game 2 began in a similar fashion to game 1, Olivet plated two runs but Taylor Hames came through with a key strikeout to limit the damage in the first.
The Blue Angel seniors would then combine for a run scoring rally in the bottom of the first. Hames singled to start the inning and she was driven in by a Kylie Ann Kluck double to cut the lead in half at 2-1.
A six run rally for the Tigers in the 3rd would extend the lead to 8-1. The inning ended on a great running catch by Ava Flannery in right field, the great grab resulted in an inning ending double play.
Olivet would continue to add on runs, taking a 14-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th.
The lead would hold up as the Tigers would win game two by a 15-1 final score.
In between contests, the Mount Mary softball program recognized senior standout players Taylor Hames and Kylie Ann Kluck.
Both were highly decorated players for MMU, receiving honors and awards for their work on the field and in the classroom. This season, Hames set a new program record for pitching appearances in a single season, and as mentioned earlier, Hames played every single position on the diamond during her career. A truly remarkable accomplishment. Both players are appreciated and will be remembered as key members of the Mount Mary softball program.
The Blue Angels (0-39, 0-27 CCAC) have completed the 2026 season. Through a tough campaign, the team did not give up and grew throughout the season and gave many glimpses of future success for the MMU program.
