NACC Announces 2020-21 Scholar-Athletes
Five Blue Angel harriers earn NACC academic honors
MILWAUKEE (naccsports.org) – The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference has recognized over 2,000 full-time student-athletes as scholar-athletes for the 2020-21 academic year. Mount Mary University, which competes as an affiliate member with the NACC for Cross Country, earned five honorees.
Senior Miranda Fluegge (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) led the Blue Angels by earning her fourth annual NACC Scholar-Athlete honor. Senior Johnelle Suto (Enterprise, Ore.) collected her third league award, while sophomore Ellie McMeeken (West Bend, Wis./Slinger) was named a Scholar-Athlete for the second time in 2020-21. Sophomores Jamy McClain (Milwaukee, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) and Brianna Valdez (Thornton, Colo./Skyview)—both newcomers to the cross country program—earned their first NACC honors respectively.
Student-athletes competing in the conference must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 or higher for the academic year to be eligible for the honor. Each academic year stands by itself for the determination of this award.
Since MMU competed as an affiliate back in 2015-16, 19 current and former Blue Angels have earned NACC Scholar-Athlete honors for Cross Country, including 11 multi-year winners.
