Continued Growth for Softball in 2023
The Mount Mary softball program completed the 2023 season with a 10-25 record. Following a 14 win season in 2022, the Blue have completed the winningest two season period in the NCAA era of Mount Mary softball. The consecutive seasons with double digit wins was also a first in modern program history.
The Blue Angels navigated injuries and numerous weather changes and cancellations throughout the season.
Individually, Brianna Lupa has established herself as the greatest pitcher in the history of the Mount Mary Softball program. At the conclusion of her third season, Lupa is already MMU's all time leader in strikeouts, wins and career earned run average.
Sam Allen, who earlier this week was named 2nd team all conference, led the Blue Angel offense in batting average and on base percentage. Micaela Gonzalez was the leader in hits for the Blue Angels with 24, and Marissa Heraly and Brianna Ecker shared the team lead in runs batted in. Defensively, the Blue Angels averaged only 1.78 errors per game as opposed to over 2 per game last season.
The 2023 Blue Angels showed a knack for clutch play, winning four extra inning games throughout the season, over Rivier, Allegheny and two over Knox.
Looking forward, the Blue Angels return a strong nucleus in the lineup, and experiened successful pitchers in the circle, prospects for the future of Mount Mary softball are certainly very bright.
