Traveling Blue Angels Tennis Ready For What Lies Ahead
MMU has two tough dual matches slated for this weekend.
The Mount Mary University tennis team will have two games on the road this weekend. The first contest will be against Bethany Lutheran University in Mankato, Minn. on Friday Sept. 26th starting at 4:00 pm. Following the Friday match up, the second dual match will put MMU against University Wisconsin River Falls on Saturday Sept. 27 starting at 1:00 pm.
In the 2013-14 Tennis season, Bethany Lutheran University lost to the Blue Angels in a 7-2 match. Ana Mercado (So./Grafton, Wis.) was instrumental to the victory last year, with a 6-0, 6-4 win in singles play, and she was part of the doubles team that defeated BLC in an 8-0 match. Brooke Slamka (Jr./Racine, Wis.) also helped set the tone early in the doubles matches as she was a part of an 8-2 victory over the Vikings.
Andrea Monacelli (So./Sussex, Wis.) beat the Vikings in her fourth flight singles match in 2013, 6-0, 6-2. Krista Olson (Jr./Appleton, Wis.), who has yet to register a losing match this season, won the 2013 number six singles match 6-1, 6-2.
After the trip to Mankato, Minn., the tennis squad will head to River Falls, Wis. to play the UW River Falls Falcons. This season, the Falcons are 2-3, and are 0-2 at home. Although, in the last five seasons Mount Mary University has lost each of their four dual matches against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference institutions, the Blue Angels this year are 3-0 on the road, which bodes well for this contest.
After the two game weekend, it will be a quick turnaround for the Blue Angels. Alverno College will host the rematch against MMU on Sept. 30 starting at 5:00 pm. Alverno won the previous dual match 6-2 over the Blue Angels on Sept. 11th this season.
