Saints March Away With 94-54 Victory
Notre Dame, Ind. --- The Mount Mary University Blue Angels travelled to take on the Holy Cross College Saints. The Saints secured the win and outscored the Blue Angels in each of the four quarters, 94-54.
Highlights From The Box Score:
- Norriah Broomfield (Milwaukee, Wis.) posted a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds.
- Mikkalla Robertson (Milwaukee, Wis.) dished out four assists.
First Quarter:
The Saints grabbed the first three buckets of the game, going on a 7-0 run. Vanessa Diaz (Kissimmee, Fla.) pulled up from the left elbow and sank the jumper to get the Blue Angels on the board. Powell knocked down a pair of free throws to close the gap to 7-4. Sanai Ballard (Highland, Ind.) checked in and quickly found Broomfield for a three-pointer, knotting the game at 7–7. Robertson contributed to the 10-0 Blue Angel run as she finished an and-one down low, 10-7. The Saints stopped the run with two easy layups and regained the lead 11-10. Broomfield added a free throw at the end of the first quarter. Holy Cross leads 20-11 after the first quarter.
Second Quarter:
Rionne Turner (Milwaukee, Wis.) grabs an offensive rebound and is the first scorer in the second quarter, 20-13. Robertson dished to Deja Rivers (Kenosha, Wis.) to cut the deficit to five. Holy Cross scored the next twelve, 32-15. Broomfield knocked down a free throw and a three-pointer, followed by Robertson's jump shot on two defenders, 38-21. Robertson's spin-move grabbed another bucket for the Blue Angels, 42-23. The Saints scored a few more baskets to end the half, 46-23.
Third Quarter:
The Saints came out of the half ready for action and scored on their first possession, 48-23. Broomfield finished through contact before the Saints drained a three, 53-25. Broomfield scored another layup and followed it up with a deep three-pointer, 55-32. The Saints went on a 7-0 run, which was stopped by a Diaz three-pointer, 62-35. Broomfield stayed hot in the third quarter, finishing another shot in the paint to bring the score to 70–37. Robertson found Avery Gorn (Waterford, Wis.) on a backdoor cut down the lane to end the third quarter trailing the Saints, 72-39.
Fourth Quarter:
Broomfield opened the fourth quarter by grabbing an offensive board and finishing to make it 72–41. Powell and Diaz got their floaters to fall, 75-45. Robertson added a strong finish under the basket after three minutes of play. She then captured an aggressive offensive rebound and went back up with it, 80-49. Ivy Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis.) was found in the short corner from Robertson to add in her first points of the day, 83-51. Off a fast break, Robertson scored another layup before a media timeout was called, 85-53. The Saints finished the game on a scoring run and captured the win, 94-54.
The Blue Angels basketball team will have a week break for Thanksgiving. After the break, they will return to the Bloechl Center for a non-conference game.
