Waukesha, WI- Mount Mary and Alverno got together in a softball doubleheader on Sunday.
Mount Mary's offense could not be contained as they took both games decisively over Alverno, by scores of 13-6 and 21-9.
The Blue Angels continued their hot hitting from Saturday in game one, home runs by Lillian Fay and Kylie Ann Kluck propelled MMU to a 7-2 advantage in the third inning.
Mount Mary continued to pound out hits, coasting to a 13-6 victory. The Blue Angels recorded 22 hits in game one. Taylor Hames went the distance in the circle to claim the victory.
Lillian Fay was 4-5 with a home run, Kylie Ann Kluck was 3-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Naomi Gomez, Alexandria Eads and Lily Day also provided three hits.
Game two began with Naomi Gomez knocking in Micaela Gonzalez to put MMU on top 1-0 in the first. The Inferno would answer with 2 first inning runs of their own. A four run second inning would extend the Alverno lead to 6-1.
MMU plated two runs in the top of the 4th inning to narrow the margin to 7-3.
Trailing 8-3, the Blue Angels would stage a huge rally in the 5th inning. MMU scored 11 runs to claim a 14-8 lead. The big inning was highlighted by another long home run by Lillian Fay.
Remarkably, the Blue Angels would add another seven runs in the 6th to extend their lead to 21-9.
21-9 would be the final score of game two. Just as in game one, MMU tallied an impressive 22 hits. Micaela Gonzalez was 4 for 5 with 3 runs batted in. Lillian Fay had another stellar game, going 2-4, hitting her second home run of the doubleheader and driving in four runs.
Naomi Gomez stayed red hot at the plate as well, going 4-5 and driving in three runs. Alexandria Eads and Jodie Penman each had three hits in game two to help the Mount Mary cause.
With their 10th victory on the season, this marks the 4th straight season the Blue Angels have reached double digit wins, the first such stretch in program history.
The Blue Angels (10-23) have now won four straight and scored at least 10 runs in all four wins. MMU will conclude their season on Tuesday, May 6th, when they travel to Ripon College for a doubleheader. All coverage of Blue Angel softball can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
