Senior Day Sweep
Glendale, WI- Saturday was a celebratory day for the Mount Mary University Softball program. In addition to two decisive victories over Maranatha Baptist, the MMU softball program recognized seniors Crystal Peterson, Micaela Gonzalez, Lillian Fay, Naomi Gomez, Kylie Ann Kluck, and Jodie Penman. The six student athletes were all significant contributors to the last four years of MMU softball, the four seasons being the winningest span in the program's history.
MMU came out hot and established themselves as the better team on the day, taking a one run lead in the 1st inning on an rbi triple from Naomi Gomez. Lillian Fay would drive in a run in the second to extend the MMU lead to 2-0.
The parade of senior players coming up with clutch hits continued in the third when Kylie Ann Kluck cracked a two run double to put MMU ahead 4-0.
MMU would post a huge inning in the bottom of the 4th and run away with game one. The 7 run 4th frame would provide MMU with a winning margin of 11-1.
Kylie Ann Kluck provided 2 hits and 4 runs batted in during game one, fellow seniors Naomi Gomez and Lillian Fay added two hits as did Lily Day. Taylor Hames claimed the pitching victory, hurling all five innings in the circle.
Game two saw the Blue Angels explode in the bottom of the 1st inning. MMU pounded out ten runs on ten hits in the inning to shoot out to a 10-0 lead.
From there Mount Mary would add on and cruise to the victory by a final score of 13-0.
The Blue Angels as a team recorded 17 hits in game 2. Lillian Fay and Naomi Gomez each went 3-4, Micaela Gonzalez, Lily Day, Jodie Penman and Alexandria Eads each provided two hits. Eads also knocked in three runs in game 2. Overall a resounding victory for the Blue Angels and a great senior day.
Over the last four seasons, the Blue Angel softball program has compiled 42 victories as of this writing, the most in any four year stretch ever for MMU softball. The 2022 campaign saw Mount Mary win 14 games, equaling the most in program history. Jodie Penman and Kylie Ann Kluck were two-year standouts for the Blue Angels, while Crystal Peterson, Micaela Gonzalez, Lillian Fay and Naomi Gomez were four-year players who will finish their careers as some of the most decorated players in MMU history.
The Blue Angels (8-23) have four scheduled games remaining on the 2025 schedule. That stretch will begin on Sunday, May 4th.
