MMU drops two at Wheaton

Wheaton, IL- Saturday saw the Mount Mary softball team travel to Wheaton, Illinois for a doubleheader with the Wheaton College Thunder.
Mount Mary had moments of clutch hitting and strong defense, but dropped both games to Wheaton by scores of 9-1 and 15-5.
In the day's first game, Wheaton took a one run lead after inning number one. The Blue Angels evened the contest on a Crystal Peterson single in the top of the 2nd.
Taylor Hames, pitching for MMU, would hold Wheaton down until the 5th inning. With the game still tied at 1, Wheaton put together a huge inning, powered by two home runs, to score 8 and end the game by a final score of 9-1.
The Blue Angels tallied five hits in game one, with Crystal Peterson leading the team with two base knocks.
Game two began with the Thunder scoring three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Trailing 4-0, the Blue Angels got on the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd. Kylie Ann Kluck, who reached on a double, was scored on a Naomi Gomez single to bring MMU within three at 4-1.
MMU continued their offensive attack in the 4th. Kylie Ann Kluck came through with an rbi single and Naomi Gomez continued her great game with a 2 run double to tie the game at 4. Micaela Gonzalez then kept the line moving as her rbi single put the Blue Angels ahead 5-4.
Wheaton would even the game in the bottom of the 4th and then put up six more runs in the 5th to go ahead 11-5.
In the 6th, Wheaton struck again for 4 runs which ended the contest by a final score of 15-5.
Kylie Ann Kluck and Naomi Gomez each had two hits for Mount Mary in game 2.
