MMU Softball Takes To The Course
Close contest close to the last hole.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Mount Mary University softball team fell victim to their coaches' precision on the putt-putt course Sunday evening at Smugglers Cove.
After another great day on the softball diamond, the Blue Angels decided to trade in their bats for putters and face off in the exclusive Blue Angels Mini Golf Invitational.
The battle royal pitted some of the hottest bats for MMU, but that did not quite carry over to the greens. After a fantastic 5-13 start to the softball season Ashley Contreras (Fr./College Station, Texas) set a record on the second hole acquiring a record breaking 20 strokes. Her power on the softball field did not seem to play well for her on the 15 foot hole.
Notching the best score of MMU players, Michelle Argenzio (Jr./Brookfield, Wis.) finished with a 46 on the 18 hole course; four strokes better than any of her teammates.
The accuracy of assistant coach Clint Andresen and head coach Tim Edwards was too tough to overcome. The seasoned veterans now share the championship title as they finished the BAMGI shooting a 44.
The team will have to gather their pride, and get ready for their softball doubleheader tomorrow starting at 8:00 am CST. Live stats will be available for both games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Monday March 9th.
