MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University basketball team won two of their three games last week. With her best performance of her very young collegiate career, Erica Williams (Fr./Bloomington, Ill.) is the next Blue Angel Spotlight Player.
Williams has been a consistent source of rebounds this year for the Blue Angels. And those efforts on the glass has the freshman forward leading the Association of Division III Independents in offensive rebounds.
That tenacity on the boards paid off dividends this past Saturday when the Blue Angels defeated visiting Grace Bible College (3-6). The rookie puled in 15 rebounds in the game and in nearly all seven instances she grabbed an offensive rebound, immediately returned the ball into the MMU bucket. Going 14-of-16 from the field, Williams finished the game with 30 of her team’s 58 points.
That huge offensive output also boosted the rookie’s points per game average to 11.2. Second on the team only to Becky Onan (Sr./Grafton, Wis.) who averages 15.3. That surge, however, moved Williams to sixth in points per game in the entire AD3I.
Williams and the Blue Angels travel to Manitowoc, Wis. this week to take on the Lakers of Silver College (3-3). Visit mtmaryathletics.com for all your Blue Angel news, scores and links to this week’s live video stream.
