Last weekend, the Blue Angels (3-3) traveled from Illinois to Iowa for a pair of doubleheaders on the diamond. MMU swept their first two-game series against Beloit College then went to Davenport, Iowa where they split with a loss against host St. Ambrose and a win over St. Louis College Pharmacy.

The Blue Angels are already receiving big performances from their newest members. Freshmen Aislinn Strusz (Fr./Aurora, Wis.) and Karley Marcelina-Vega (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) lead their new team with five RBIs each. In addition, new hard-throwing pitch Haley Smalley (Jr./Columbus, Ind.) has logged a team high 21.0 innings in the circle while striking out 11 batters on her way to a 3.67 earned run average.

Meanwhile, the Blue Angels have a plethora of returners who have picked up where they left off last season. Haley Jacquez (Jr./Oakley, Calif.) has a dependable lead-off option for the Blue Angels over the last three seasons and the junior has already started off the 2019 campaign with a .412 batting average and .444 on-base percentage.

Outfielder Amelia Flint (Sr./Whitefish Bat, Wis.) has been MMU's early power option this year. The lone senior on this year's roster leads her team in extra-base hits and slugging percentage. Although very early on, Flint's on-base plus slugging puts her in the stratospheric realm of .980: Cooperstown members Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio both retired with .977 OPS.
