MILWAUKEE – This week the Blue Angels hit the court for a pair of games as they close in on tying the program's single season wins record. With three games left to go this season, the Mount Mary University basketball team (6-12) needs just two more wins to tie the record of eight wins. In addition, Becky Onan (Sr./Grafton, Wis.) is just 11 points away from becoming the first Blue Angel in recorded history to score 1000 career points.
This week's game…
(Home games in bold. All times listed are Central Standard Time.)
- Thu. Feb. 15 Finlandia 6:00 pm
- Sat. Feb. 17 @ Illinois Tech 12:00 pm
First on the schedule is Finlandia University (5-19) on Thursday night at the Bloechl Center. The Lions are members of the American Collegiate Athletic Association, the conference MMU will join in multiple sports for the 2018-19 season.
Recently, the Lions have run into a four-game losing streak including two 20-point losses. Although the Lions have had their struggles as of late, they possess similar team stats as the Blue Angels. MMU, however, has a slight edge on shooting effectiveness in field goal, 3-point and free throw percentages.
Then the Blue Angels travel to the Windy City to take on the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech (1-20). MMU already defeated the Scarlet Hawks convincingly 77-50 near the end of January of this year. In the win for MMU, four different Blue Angels scored double-digits while Erica Williams (Fr./Bloomington, Ill.) dropped her fourth double-double of the season: Williams recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Scarlet Hawks are also in the midst of a five-game losing streak including that MMU win in January. In addition, MMU has won the last six meeting against Illinois Tech. IIT will host the Blue Angels this Saturday at the Keating Sports Complex as they both approach the end of their respective seasons.
