The Mount Mary University softball team is getting right back in action this week with three doubleheaders. As the 2017 softball season begins the final stretch, MMU will have some stiff competition this coming week.
In games one and two of the week, the Blue Angels (6-16) will travel for a rematch of their Association of Division III Independents rival Maranatha Baptist University (6-12) in Watertown, Wis. The Sabercats come into the week riding a four-game winning streak, but have not been victorious over the Blue Angels in MBU's last 13 attempts.
Then MMU will host Finlandia University (18-11) on Friday at Alverno Field. The Lions have flipped the script quickly from last season, when the team finished 5-19. Although on the plus side of .500, the Lions strength of schedule is 18 spots weaker than the Blue Angels, according to MasseyRatings.com.
MMU will then wrap up the week of play on Saturday at the WLC Softball Field. The Blue Angels will play host to North Central College (13-13) out of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Cardinals recently split with the University of Chicago (16-9) after the Cardinals had a dramatic two-run bottom half of the seventh to push the game into extra innings. NCC followed up that timely hitting with a walk-off single in the eighth inning.
The Blue Angels are on a four-game losing streak after sweeping MBU in early April. After struggling to find consistent hitting in the first doubleheader thereafter, the Blue Angels then let loose on 11 hits in their last contest against Lakeland University (11-15).
