The Mount Mary University softball team resumes plays this weekend with four contests. The Blue Angels will not travel far for their first doubleheader as they head down the road to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College (3-7). It will be the first time these two teams have met since last season's mid-March doubleheader.
Although they have a losing record on the year, the Warriors lead the all-time series against the Blue Angels at 7-1 and won both games in the doubleheader in 2016. In addition, one of WLC's wins this season was a 4-2 victory over Mount Saint Mary (3-7).
After Saturday's doubleheader at WLC Field, the Blue Angels will travel to Rockford, Ill. to face host Rockford University (2-8) on Sunday. In the last two doubleheaders with the Regents, the Blue Angels have split 1-1. The last game these two teams played finished in a 10-2 victory for MMU with now assistant coach Nikki Festge ('16) finishing the complete game while giving up no earned runs.
This season the Blue Angels came away from their spring trip with a record of 2-8. After snapping a six-game losing streak, MMU erupted for a 9-0 five-inning win over Wheelock (0-6). Adrianna Nester (Fr./Anaheim, Calif.) picked up her first win of the season against Wheelock with the complete game shutout.
A tough start to the season for MMU with the 2-8 record, however, the Blue Angels have 70 hits as a team while opponents have 71. Even though the strength of schedule is much higher than past years, the Blue Angels have posted an all-time low team ERA to begin this season as well.
